I will forever remember JP and Lynn’s engagement session for being an overwhelming expression of their natural joy and love for each other. The warm golden sand and open fields were a dream to photograph, but these two would have been stunning even in a barren landscape. Sprinkled with flirty smiles and sweet affection, this session was almost as dreamy as their real life love story.
When asked about their amazing love story they will tell you that it can be summarized as “beauty from ashes.” Although born in Brooklyn, New York Lynn first met JP in their first grade classroom in Jacmel, Haiti after moving there with her family. They exchanged secret smiles from across the classroom, and JP frequently remembers catching Lynn staring at him. It was against culture for Lynn to display feelings toward him but they laugh now at how obvious she was about her interest in that cute little seven year old across the room. Their deep childhood crush was interrupted though as their parents moved them both between countries multiple times.
They lost contact over the years but were reunited again in 2013; almost 18 years later. JP unintentionally stumbled upon photos of Lynn through mutual friends on social media and they quickly rekindled that childhood romance in Orlando, Florida where they both had ended up for college. Neither one of them quite recognized the other at first but they soon remembered those old days in the Caribbean. Back and forth travel between countries, different cities and years of separation could not stop these two from finding each other in this love story that surpasses any romance novel written.
During their years apart from each other they both confess to living lives that were not what they would have wished for themselves. The beauty of their connection is how they lift each other up; iron sharpening iron. JP says that it is this relationship that equipped them to extend sacrificial love, grace, forgiveness and patience towards each other. When they are together they continually help build each other up to be better people, individually and ultimately as a couple; proving that they really are better together.
This charming duo became more and more captivated with each other as time went on and tying them together was their deep heart for God and people. They also have a mutual love for cooking, singing and fashion. (The dress Lynn is wearing in these engagement photos was a gift JP presented to her for their session. She was unaware of what he chose but trusted his great fashion sense!)
The pair have planned a quaint ceremony with a handful of loved ones to share in their special day. Their celebration will have a truly Caribbean meets Florida feel with traditional Haitian food and a coastal venue. With toes in the sand and family flying in from Haiti these two are finally ready to celebrate turning that childhood crush into true love.
From JP on his wardrobe choices, “Our style choice sought to exemplify elegance and decency, which Lynn and I often refer to as simple and chic. Lynn’s elegance has always been and will always be refreshing and attractive to me.”
